Arirang arirang ara-ri-oh

Why does my true lover wander afar?

Through the mountains and over the plain,
Moon and stars guide her till I see her again

£ªArirang arirang ara-ri-oh
Dreaming and lonely I wait for my love
Go, my thoughts, to the place where she lies
Tell her of my love and my tender sighs

No one knows what Arirang means exactly and when and from where this song originated. It is known that there are about 128 different versions of Arirang songs in Korea-each differs and represents its regional characteristics. £ªCome look at me, come look at me, come look at me

Flowers are rare in winter air, so look at me

Ari ari rang suri suri rang
Come look at me
Climb up the mountain

Over the mountain
Come let us go

The legend says that, Arang, the only daughter of the Milyang Governor, had exquisite beauty and many talents and therefore many admirers.

One of the admirers was the office slave, who loved her one-sidedly. Arang killed herself to defend her chastity against this slave. The Milyang people built a worship house in praise of her virtue and sang this song. Milyang is located in the south-eastern part of Korea and this song has been known from this region as long as the legend.
